How Root Canals Relieve Pain?

Find out how this endodontic treatment can eliminate your dental pain.

Don’t let a toothache ruin your day. While it might seem like a little issue a toothache is anything but. In fact, leaving a toothache to fester will most likely require your Findlay dentist Dr. Krystal DeClerck to perform a root canal. Find out about this procedure and how it could Root Canalpreserve your smile.

What is a root canal?

A root canal is an endodontic procedure in which your Findlay dentist Dr. DeClerck removes a diseased or inflamed dental pulp. The dental pulp is the inside structure of the tooth that contains blood vessels, connective tissue, and nerves. The pulp can become inflamed or infected by disease, decay or direct trauma to the tooth.

How can it eliminate my pain?

If you have severe decay or an infection most patients will often present with a toothache. If the patient doesn’t seek treatment from their Findlay dentist the pain will most likely get worse. If decay or infection breaks through the harder layers of enamel and enters the inside of the tooth it can affect the dental pulp. Once the pulp becomes inflamed or diseased most patients will notice severe pain.

The only way to fully eliminate this pain is by performing a root canal treatment where your Findlay dentist enters the inside of the tooth and removes the pulp to eliminate pain.

What should I expect when I get a root canal?

While you may be nervous about getting a root canal, you’ll be happy to hear that this procedure is no more complicated or invasive than getting a tooth filled. Because your Findlay dentist Dr. DeClerck performs this endodontic treatment under local anesthesia, you won’t experience discomfort during your procedure.

Once the anesthesia has taken effect, we will drill through the hard dentin layers of your tooth until we reach the inside. Once inside, we will carefully remove diseased tissue from the inside of the tooth. After we remove the pulp we will thoroughly clean out the inside of the tooth to make sure no debris or infection is left. Then we will use a rubber material to rebuild the inside of the tooth.

The final step in your root canal procedure is placing a dental crown over your tooth to restore function and strength back into the damaged tooth. A root canal helps to preserve the tooth so you won’t require a tooth extraction. The sooner you seek treatment when you notice dental pain the better off your smile will be.

If you are experiencing a toothache then it’s time to get to the bottom of it. Contact DeClerk Family Dental right away to protect the health of your smile.
